Introduction and requirements

Alcilla does not require a fully developed AI platform. The application can start on a suitable workstation. The infrastructure that makes sense in the long term depends on the number of users, scope of functions, and selected AI models.

What is generally required?

For a local start

  • a supported workstation or server,
  • sufficient storage for the data to be processed,
  • an AI model endpoint, such as Ollama,
  • a model for chat and a model for knowledge search,
  • the desired data sources, such as document folders or an email account.

For optional functions

Depending on how Alcilla is used, additional services may be required:

Function Additional component
Convert documents and PDF files Docling
Web research SearXNG
Transcribe meetings Transcription service and audio support
Central sign-in OIDC-compatible identity provider
Transfer appointments and tasks CalDAV or calendar integration
Process email IMAP and SMTP access

Hardware and performance requirements

Performance requirements depend primarily on the selected language model. Small models can run without a dedicated graphics card, but they generally respond more slowly. A suitable GPU or central model server is recommended for larger models and multiple simultaneous users.

Alcilla assists with selection:

  • Hardware can be detected automatically.
  • A suitability score indicates which models are appropriate for the available equipment.
  • Models can be downloaded from the user interface without using the command line.

Because requirements vary by model and use case, there is no universal minimum for system memory or graphics memory. Together, we assess the existing infrastructure, evaluate suitable deployment options, and, when needed, advise on purchasing an appropriate graphics card or dedicated AI computer.

What you do not need to master yourself

You do not need to install Ollama or understand Docker, model sizes, or embeddings. We can take care of this for you or guide you through it:

  • infrastructure and hardware assessment,
  • installation and basic configuration,
  • selection of suitable models,
  • setup of optional services,
  • connection of email, calendars, and document sources,
  • security and data protection coordination,
  • training for administrators and users,
  • operation, updates, and troubleshooting.
